How and Why I Use Pinterest

I've been using Pinterest regularly for a couple years now and I absolutely love it. Some people think its kinda girly and just for crafts and stuff, but it isn't if you use it right. And I think I use it a little differently than most in a way that inspires me to live a better life.

Pinterest as Inspiration for Life

Sometimes in life, as I am sure everyone experiences, I hit stale points. I come into moments where I don't feel creative or inspired. I tend to feel tire and like I am just going through the motions. I know its part of the everyday rhythm of life but I hate feeling this way. I am a creative person at heart and if I am not feeling inspired it really gets to me.

Thats where Pinterest comes in...

Because of the accounts that I have chosen to follow, Pinterest gives me a constant stream of beautiful photos of people living their lives in ways that inspire me and make me want to live a better life. Over the years I have found some awesome accounts that share beautiful stuff on the things that interest and inspire me. I then post those pins to boards based on areas of my life that I care about.

I have boards for:

  • Style (Mine and Courtney's)
  • Home Style
  • Coffee
  • Music
  • The Outdoors
  • Jeep
  • Barbering
  • Photography
  • and others...

Having this stream of inspiration helps me to not only stay inspired, but can even help bring me out of these slumps we often fall into. Ill be feeling discouraged and I will pull up Pinterest, see a beautiful photo of someone making coffee in a Chemed and it will remind me how much I like that experience, and I will take the time to make myself some coffee and I'll feel a little better. I might also see a photo of someone fishing in a mountain lake, walking down the street at sunset, a couple embracing, a record player spinning...and all of these things can help inspire me to go live the life I want to life.

A Word of Caution

I know we have to be careful with this. Its easy to see beautiful people and houses and lives and think " I will never live a life like that" and be hard on ourselves. Its also easy to just see all this beautiful stuff and live our lives as a fantasy through it. But that isn't the point. We should never lust after what other people have. Lust is like a disease that gets in our soul an eats us from the inside. We should use this desire as motivation to live everyday better than the last. We should use it to drive us forward living every moment to the fullest.

How to Find Cool Pinterest Accounts

I have had a couple people ask me how to find these inspiring Pinterest accounts. It's actually pretty easy. The best way to do it is to search Pinterest for an interest of yours. You might try Camping, Coffee, Mens Style, Music...or anything. After you search find a pin that you really love, open it up, and then look on the right side to see who pinned it last. Go to their account and see if they might be someone you might want to follow. After that you can click on one of their other pins and see who pinned that. And it become an endless chain of finding new accounts.

Another little tip is, if you want, you can follow only certain boards from an account. So if there is only one board that interests you, you don't have to follow the entire account.

Places to Get Started

Here is some accounts I enjoy following. They might be a good place for you to start.

In Conclusion

I hope this helped. Maybe you will be able to use Pinterest in a way that is encouraging and inspiring to your life. Feel free to leave a comment with your Pinterest name so I can follow. Have a great week friends!

Weekend Music: Gungor

So one of my favorite bands in the world just released a new album yesterday. The band is Gungor and the album is called One Wild Life: Soul and it is the first of three new albums they plan on releasing in the next year.

I have listened to it a couple time through so far and it is freakin amazing. It's epic and cinematic at parts and the whole things feels almost late 80's pop to me. Like you almost expect to hear Peter Gabriel or Michael Jackson come in for a verse or two.

It is optimistic and hopeful about humanity in a way that I haven't heard from an album in a long time.

The video above is an acoustic version of one of my favorite tracks from this album. The whole thing is great. You should buy it or stream it or listen to it however you can.

Your problem is how you are going to spend this one odd and precious life you have been issued. Whether you’re going to spend it trying to look good and create the illusion that you have power over people and circumstances, or whether you are going to taste it, enjoy it and find out the truth about who you are.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Comic-Con 2015 Reel

I am not exactly certain why I am posting this here why I feel it belongs, but somehow I do. First off I am not extremely nerdy about too many things, but I absolutely love Star Wars and seeing it re-born by people who are treating it with such love and passion makes me so incredibly excited. It is inspiring to me too. I want to treat my art with same enthusiasm and care that JJ Abrams and his team seems to be doing with this film.

That might have been a bit of a stretch for me to basically just have an excuse to post a Star Wars video to my blog. Either way enjoy, and have a wonderful weekend!

Flip Clock

For years I have loved the simple and beautiful design of flip clocks. I have been on the hunt for a vintage, working, good condition one for years. I know you can find them online but I really wanted to find one for myself. Today, at an ARC Thrift Store, I finally found it. It is a 1970's Copal Model 227. It is small, elegant, in almost new condition, and works like a champ...and I payed $3 for it.

It immediately gained a place on my desk and I freakin' love this thing.
