The First Camping Trip of 2019

A couple of weeks ago one of my best friends Charlie, my brother Stephen, and I made our way west and south into the mountains for a night away in the wilderness.

We found a campsite at a place called Eleven Mile Canyon that looked good. We booked it, packed up our rigs with camping gear and kayaks, and headed out. It didn’t really matter where we were going, we were just glad to get away for a day.

On a technical note, the day before leaving I picked up the Fuji XF 16mm f1.4 lens. I have been wanting to try it for awhile and I thought a camping trip was a good way to break it in. To be honest, I am blown away! It’s a little early to tell, but I think this may be my new favorite lens of all time. It is really amazing if you love to shoot wide.

When we arrived at our planned camping destination, it was a little different than we expected. It was ridiculously windy (there was a wind guard at the picnic table), there were no trees, and it was swarming with ridiculously huge bugs. It definitely wasn’t ideal.

After a quick snack and re-group we headed away from the lake and quickly came across some BLM land that was perfect! We found a spot we liked and had camp set up in no time.

Pro Tip:

Use a battery powered vacuum cleaner in the “blower” mode to quickly blast oxygen into your fire and get it going very quickly.

After breakfast we loaded up the rigs and made our way to Rampart Resevoir to throw the kayaks in. It was a truly beautiful lake with beautiful views, and the perfect end to our trip. Hopefully we can get several more of these trips in this season. It really is good for the soul.

Blooming

I think River was born at a really cool time of the year because her growth almost seems to match the seasons.

Just as Spring is upon us and it seems like the whole world is blooming, it seems like she is doing the same. Her little personality is starting to come out in spades and I love watching. She waves at everybody, smiles and giggles, and loves being outside. It is so fun to watch and I love this little girl so much.

River has figure out waving and it is our favorite thing right now. She will wave and anybody and everybody.

I wanted to cook some brats for lunch but we were out of propane. So what did I do? I did what a man would do and I cooked them over an open flame. And they were delicious.

Courtney wanted to make sure I got a picture of these diaper because they are "so cute". They are pretty cute aren't they?

We just love having great-granmda or "GG" living with us. She is so sweet and so much fun.

River's Mom

River isn't old enough to talk yet, but I think if she was, she would say how thankful she is to have a mom that loves her this much. She gets up in the middle of the night to feed her, she plays with her and changes her diaper. She works hard at a job to help take care of her. And she would do anything to help her grow into an awesome little human. She would say "I love you Mom. You are the best one I could ask for. Happy Mothers day!"

Coors Tour

A few weeks back my buddy Brian and I headed down to Golden Colorado to do the Coors Factory tour. It was pretty great. This is actually only part of it. The rest of this days adventures is on another roll somewhere that I am sure I will develop soon.
