A Day at the Denver Zoo

The Denver Zoo is one of our most favorite place in the entire city.

It might be because we have kids, but I don’t think so. We totally would go to the zoo regularly when it was just the two of us. There is just something about it.

We both love animals a lot, which is obviously a big part of it, but it is also just a really beautiful place. There is amazing plants and trees everywhere and it really just feels like a little natural oasis in the middle of the city. Having a pass is also definitely the way to go. It completely takes the stress away. We can go for a couple hours on a Sunday morning just to see a few things, and not feel bad leaving before nap time. It is one of our favorite Sunday activities and we are there probably twice a month.

Anyways…these photos are from our last trip to the zoo and what a fun day it was. We asked everybody what animals they wanted to see that day and we managed to squeeze all of them in. I am already excited for out next trip.

The First Camping Trip of 2019

A couple of weeks ago one of my best friends Charlie, my brother Stephen, and I made our way west and south into the mountains for a night away in the wilderness.

We found a campsite at a place called Eleven Mile Canyon that looked good. We booked it, packed up our rigs with camping gear and kayaks, and headed out. It didn’t really matter where we were going, we were just glad to get away for a day.

On a technical note, the day before leaving I picked up the Fuji XF 16mm f1.4 lens. I have been wanting to try it for awhile and I thought a camping trip was a good way to break it in. To be honest, I am blown away! It’s a little early to tell, but I think this may be my new favorite lens of all time. It is really amazing if you love to shoot wide.

When we arrived at our planned camping destination, it was a little different than we expected. It was ridiculously windy (there was a wind guard at the picnic table), there were no trees, and it was swarming with ridiculously huge bugs. It definitely wasn’t ideal.

After a quick snack and re-group we headed away from the lake and quickly came across some BLM land that was perfect! We found a spot we liked and had camp set up in no time.

Pro Tip:

Use a battery powered vacuum cleaner in the “blower” mode to quickly blast oxygen into your fire and get it going very quickly.

After breakfast we loaded up the rigs and made our way to Rampart Resevoir to throw the kayaks in. It was a truly beautiful lake with beautiful views, and the perfect end to our trip. Hopefully we can get several more of these trips in this season. It really is good for the soul.

Jackson × Holly: Married

Jackson and Holly aren't the kind of people you meet everyday. They are special. They are the kind of people that make you feel like a better person when you are around them. Jackson is one of the most encouraging people I have met. You can tell that he genuinely cares about you and wants to see you be great. Holly is so sweet and caring and together they make a beautiful team that will almost certanly leave an impact on this world.

This wedding was one of the most beautiful we have ever photographed, not because of the location or details (though those were beautiful as well) but because you really knew something good was happening. The presence of God on this ceremony was almost tangible, you could almost feel it on your skin.

We are proud to know Jackson and Holly and so honored that we got to photograph your wedding.
