Hiking with Brian and a 28mm

I went hiking with my buddy Brian this weekend. It was good to get out for a bit. Because of financial reasons I have decided to shoot digital a bit more recently, not that I mind that much. My A7ii is pretty awesome.

I bought a 28mm lens for it a little while back and I have been on the fence about it. The lens itself is actually wonderful. I was more struggling with if I liked 28mm as a focal length at all. I decided to shoot it only this day and I think its growing on me. It's wide but it can be a lot of fun.

Brainard Lake at Sunrise (also today is my birthday)

Today is my birthday! I am officially 28 years old. Unfortunately Courtney had to work today so I decided to wake up at 3:30am and drive to Brainard Lake to shoot the sunrise. Landscape photography has been a love of mine for a long time but I just don't get out to shoot like I should. I think that is going to change though. It was so beautiful and peaceful out there.

This was also my first real outing with the Sony/Zeiss 16-35mm f4 and holy crap that lens is awesome. It's one of the sharpest lenses I have ever used and it is just as sharp at any aperture.

The image below was one of the first ones I captured. The "blue hour" light is probably my favorite light to shoot in. I am so happy with this image. I think it is one of my best landscape images ever. A perfect birthday present.

I got several other "keepers" from this outing but I think I am going to save them for future posts instead of sharing them all at once. I really need shoot in the mountains more. Maybe from here on out I will try my best to get out once a week. I think that would be good for me.
